Copa d’ Oro (Santa Monica)

StarStarStarStarStar

I’ve frequented Copa D’ Oro a half dozen times
now.  I’d probably be a regular by now if I didn’t have to drive 20+
miles to get there. This place is THAT good.

Pros:  Awesome drinks – Never had a drink I didn’t enjoy here.  Some
drinks can be interesting but that’s not a bad thing by any
means.  Among my favorites, in no particular order, are; Jack
Rose, Gold Rush, Ward Eight, Ruby Sleeper Martini, Limbo’s
Cocktail, Asian Pear Martini & Uva Bella. You really cannot go
           wrong.

If you think you can concoct something better, suit yourself.
They’ll  even accommodate you! Just give em any combination
of fruit, veggie, herb, spice and spirit and have it tailored to
your liking. Sweet, Sour, Spicy, etc. They’ll do you up!

Happy Hour – At 5 bucks a pop, you just can’t beat this –
unless Happy Hour is available on weekends…WHICH IT IS!
Apparently, on Mondays it gets even better with Happy Hour
            extending throughout the night.

Music – I really dig the music selection from the guest DJ’s I
have heard while here on weekends.  Nice mash-ups of
classic joints, lesser known artists & Electronica.  I’m very
glad I haven’t had to listen to current pop music while savoring
            my  tasty libations.

Parking – Ample Parking in garages nearby.  I usually pay
$3 for a short walking distance from Copa.

Cons:  Service – I’m on the fence on this one.  It’s more hit than miss.  I
always feel that they could use an extra server.  I understand
that the cocktails take time to concoct. I get that.  What I
don’t get is when the server only comes around twice in a 1.5
hour span to take take your order.  Again, I repeat,  the service
is hit or miss but more times than not, it is very attentive.  In
sum, I won’t allow 1 bad experience to have me knock the
service. So, the the jury is still out on this one.

Food:  It’s just not on par with the drinks.  But will that keep
me from coming back?  Hell no!  I did notice that they added a
few more items so perhaps they’ve taken in some of the
constructive criticism.  I’ll have to give those a try on my next
visit.  What I have tried are 4 different paninis – my
favorite from the lot is the Turkey Bacon.

Ward Eight – Bourbon, Homemade Grenadine, Fresh Lemon Juice & Fresh Orange Juice.
