El Presidente

You have 30 seconds to name Cuban-borne cocktails - Go!

Mojito... ?? ...  Okay okay, take a couple of minutes.  Take your time.  Yes, the daiquiri is indeed from Cuba.  Good  Very good!  No, Rum n coke doesn't count.  What, that's it?  Well, sadly you are in the majority.  Most people recognize the mojito as being from Cuba but fewer people realize the daiquiri was also brought from Cuba.  But it doesn't end there.  The popularity of these 2 drinks is well-deserved but Cuba has a slew of drinks that have been forgotten from a time when Americans would set sail to Havana for a drink.  Yes, during Prohibition, when wealthy Americans wanted to drink, some would travel to Cuba to wet their whistle.

Another drink to hail from Cuba, El Presidente, is said to have been created to honor one of the presidents.

This is 320 Main's/Caña Rum Bar Monthly Contributor, Matt Robold's, adapted cocktail recipe for the cocktail.

El Presidente

1.5 oz Aged Rum
.75 oz Dry Vermouth
.25 oz Curacao
.5 tsp Grenadine

Stir with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with an orange or lemon twist.
