Michael's On Naples (Long Beach - Naples)

StarStarStarStarStar

I had been wanting to dine at Michael's on Naples for many years now.  So when Lilly asked me where I wanted my B-day meal, Bloomspot deal in hand, I said Michael's.

The main dining room is a little too formal and quite for me so I opted for upstairs seating.

It's much livelier up here.  Half of it is covered...

...while the other half is open.

Oh, and there's live music as well.  Nothing too raucous though.  I managed to decipher a couple of the tunes he was playing - one, a Zeppelin song.  The other song, he somehow managed to lighten up, was this.  Oh, you think that's sad, depressing, demoralizing??  Shoot, if you only knew the lyrics.

Anyway, while we were deciding how to tackle the menu, they brought out an amuse bouche of foie gras and balsamic reduction bruschetta.  Damn, to think this stuff is gonna be banned starting July 1st.  Foie gras now, plastic bags soon.  What's next?  A moratorium on two-ply and mandatory use of single-ply toilet paper and recycled-toilet-paper??  I swear, I hate each and every one of you Green Fucks & PETA Assholes.

The more I think about it, the more I wish I had partaken in this tasting.

{We now re-join our regularly scheduled program already in progress} ...Saison Dupont.

The Bottled Beer List.

Lilly's "house" red.

"House" Bread.  I kid.  I kid.  {Inside joke}

Fiori di Zucca - Ricotta-stuffed squash blossoms with honey & basil pesto.  Whenever I see Shishito Peppers on a menu, I have to order them.  The same can be said about stuffed-squash blossoms.

Burrata con Carciofi - Confit baby artichokes with burrata cheese.  I love fresh cheese and this one was exceptional.  I wished the artichokes were more briny, however.

Negroni - Campari, sweet vermouth & gin.

Taleggio e Funghi Pizzette - Grilled flat bread with wild forest mushrooms and Tallegio cheese.

Lasagna Verde alla Bolognese -  spinach pasta layered with meat sauce, mozzarella, parmesan and tomato guanciale sauce.  This is now my favorite lasagna.  It used to be from Angelini Osteria, but the hearty meat sauce and the guanciale seal the deal for me.

  Dessert Menu.

It's hard for me to resist a freshly made doughnut, let alone three!

Thank you for my birthday meal, Lilly.  You know me better than anyone.  I'm a very simple guy; Good eats, good drinks and good company.  Check, check and check.  I couldn't have asked for more.
