Spirit House (Monterey Park)

Spirit House burger and fries.

Food menu.

La Folie - Lips of Faith.  This is the first sour Spirit House has tapped in.  I am so happy sours are making their rounds these days.  The stuff is so good on it's own.  Paired with rich, heavy, deep-fried food, it hit the mark every time.

Elote tempura with grilled shishito peppers.

KFC Wings.

Cocktail portion of the menu.  Not sure about the frozen daiquiri being a classic though.

Aviation - It's worth noting that upon my first visit, they had no mezcal to speak of.  On that visit, I met the owner, David, who proceeded to jot down some information regarding this spirit that was unbeknownst to him.  Well, months later, to my pleasant surprise, they had the bottle I asked about.  I was happy but also sad to find out that not many people are ordering mezcal.  What can you expect from a predominantly Asian and club-going crowd, I guess.  Well, I was going to make sure they used the spirit in some capacity but the problem is, they don't know how to use it.  Talking to the bartender, he said they only use it to make smoky margaritas.  Well that sucks.  When I finished my beer I was going to have one of them fix me a drink with mezcal.  And when that time came, I asked for a Mezcal Aviation.  I guess this particular bartender missed the mezcal part cuzz I was given a regular one and a not very well made one at that.  Something seemed off.  Well, I didn't make a big deal of it but I was sad that my bottle wasn't used.  Either way, I told the guys to relay a message to David for me; thanking him for stocking his bar with mezcal for [at the very least] me.

This is the second time I have forgotten to grab one of these suckers.  Third time's a charm?

Dogfish Head's 90 Minute IPA.
