Angel City Brewing (Los Angles - Downtown)

Eureka and Angeleno are available city-wide.  The porter and pilsner, you can only get here.

My 2nd favorite beer here (and I don't really like Pilsners).

  You can sit at the bar where they have around 12 stools or you can park your ass on one of the many benches directly across.  In a month or so, you'll be able to reserve the upstairs section for private parties.

So far, you can only purchase 4 different Angel City beers but they have 4 more taps ready to go for when they release more.  And as far as food goes, soon you'll be able to order from the pizzeria across the street and grab some grub from food trucks that will eventually set up outside.

 So far, I'm a little unimpressed with what I've had.  But I'm told they are gonna dabble with sours and barrel-aging beer in bourbon barrels so I still have hope for that, as those are my personal favorite styles of beer.  In the meantime, get some glassware, will ya?  I feel like I'm at frat party with all these damn plastic cups.  Just sayin'.

 They are now open from 4-10 on Thursday through Friday.  Sundays remain the same.

Little Bear (Los Angeles - Arts District)


Welcome?  Actions speak louder than words.

All I will say is, our server only came to take our order ten minutes after being seated, ask if we needed something else half an hour later, then to drop off the check.  Thanks dick.  I did want to order a couple more dishes and at least another round of drinks but the dude waiting on us blew more than Peter North his early I hear.  {Awkward silence} Moving on!

Although I could've had a cocktail, Little Bear carries one of the widest assortments of Belgian or Belgian style beer around here (or so they say), so being a big fan of that style, I decided to lean in that direction.

Cuvee Brut & Monkish's Vigil dark witbier.

We ordered a sour and one I don't recall having at Monkish.  I liked the sour but I thought it was too sweet up front.  Maybe it's just me, but I think The Bruery has me spoiled with their mouth-puckering sours.  Vigil, sad to say, was the worst beer I've had from Monkish.  It seemed off and had a heavy mineral flavor that I couldn't get passed.  It just wasn't right.

You would think that a special insert inside of the menu would mean that these were the night's specials yet when I tried to order the short rib skewers, we were told that they were out.  Seriously?  The place was half empty around 8pm on a Friday and one of the specials wasn't available?  Now that I think about it, the douche bag that gave us the menus, made no mention of this.  Hey, who's running things over there?!

Cauliflower Soup.

Because we had a long enough time to look the menus over a few times, when the knucklehead finally came to take our order, we had already decided on our course of action.  We wanted a few apps to share but that's when we were told that they were out of one of them.  "Fine," I said, "I'd like to order these for the time being.  I'd like a few minutes to decide what else we'd like to order since you're out of skewers."  I didn't see the S.O.B again til our glasses were empty and our plates were removed from our table.

The soup was good and creamy - just the way I like it.  No complaints there.  But the mac n cheese was a different story.  It was slightly better than the stove top variety.  It even looked like it!  They used the same noodle and even the sauce had that same orange hue.  If they wanted to harken my memory back to my childhood, they succeeded.  And I do not mean that in a nice way.  This reminded me of a [side] dish restaurants put together in the kitchen near the end of lunch service for the staff to enjoy in between lunch and dinner.  It wasn't memorable Scratch that!  It was memorable - for all the wrong reasons.  The sauce sucked and the noodles were way overcooked.  It was easily my least favorite the worst mac n cheese I've had in a restaurant.

Little Bear Burger - fresh ground Angus beef patty, mushroom, truffle oil, Stilton cheese, crispy onions, arugula, cherry gastrique, sesame brioche bun.

On the flip side of the coin, I thought the burger was pretty badass.  The only issue I had with it, was that it could have been seasoned better, at least a little more salt.  I thought it was so good that I barely even noticed that it didn't come with bacon!  Oh and the Beligian fries it comes with, they're damn tasty as well.  

I really don't want to spend my money at this joint, but after having the burger, I think I'll give em another chance.  I mean, I hadn't experienced bad service like this from them before.  I wonder if... Could it be possilbe that... Naaah.  Perhaps I'll just saddle up at the bar next time, just to make sure.
