Banh Mi My Tho (Alhambra)

Signage.

For my money and my taste buds, Banh Mi My Tho makes the best sandwich in all of Los Angeles.  You just can't beat their bargain prices and if you can or if you do, it would be difficult for me to imagine that the flavor would compare.  But I could be wrong.  I'm always open to suggestions!

Charbroiled pork banh mi.

On a recent visit, I asked the lady at the counter for 4 of their best sandwiches.  I was expecting 4 of their best-sellers, but my order came to me in the form of 4 #8s.  Okay, I see I wasn't clear.  My bad.  Oh well, nothing wrong with getting 4 orders their most popular sandwich.  I was going to share after all - or was I?

Cross section of a fantastic sandwich.

There is nothing to not love about the composition of this sandwich.  The bread is crusty on the outside, yet soft and chewy on the interior.  The meat is flavorful, tender and slightly sweet while the veggies are fresh, crisp and slightly pickled.  The jalapeño and cilantro provide a kick to truly make this a Vietnamese treat.  Man, I could go for 1, 2 or 3 right now...

The rest of the menu.

Sure, they offer plenty of other dishes (and again, the overwhelming majority are under $5.00!), but it's hard to stray from their crown jewel - the banh mi.
